• my new puppy seems to be breathing really fast, he has been laying down for about a half hour, but doesn't seem to be slowing down. Does anyone know if it's normal for a puppy to breath faster than an older dog?

  • Puppies breathe fast if they're stressed, scared or feeling hot. Check if any of these are the reason. Otherwise, check with your vet.

  • We have a smaller dog, about 2 yrs, and she still does that. well see her stomach moving up and down really fast, almost like she just got done running or something. I think its normal.

  • Yes. It's true for puppies and people and elephants. The young breathe quite a bit faster then the adults. Same goes for heart rates.

Also, dogs pant quickly to regulate their temperature.
