well she always pulls all of her bedding into a corner like a giant pile and sleeps in it. I noticed her leg was sticking out and I thought that was strange. so I went to pour some food in her bowl; she always charges out when she hears it. when she didn't come running, I got worried and picked her up out of her "cave". well her eyes are bulging and look crusty, and she felt sort of cold and limp, but shes twitching occasionally....what happened??? she was perfectly fine and walking around yesterday!
my parents won't take her to a vet, because money's tight with my dad's and grand mom's hospital bills, and shes a mouse.
if she is on her way to that big hammie wheel in the sky, is there anything I can do to help her along?
:(
oh, and we use and have always used the carefresh bedding. (I believe that's what it's called.)
Something could REALLY be wrong.
1. Keep the cage in a warm (not hot) area. Keeping it plenty warm is important. It will say to itself "It's to warm to go into hibernation" and will countinue happily.
2. Make sure he get plenty of excersise. Excersise is very important also since hamsters need to stay active. Play with him often in the evenings and in the mornings.
3. Make sure he has plenty of food an water. Another way hamsters go into hibernation is because they think they will strave from lack of food, or die from lack of water. Make sure he has plenty in his cage at all times.
For the crusy eye, get a cutip (the things you stick in your ears to clean them) I pour some warm (not hot) water on it. Once you have done that, gently stroke his crusty spot for about five minutes. Continue this process for a couple of days, and it should disappear.
Good luck with your hamster. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me.
Good luck
But it sounds like the pet store sold you a hamster that was older then they said it was, so your hamster could be more like 1.5 years old or maybe older then that.
duh
Maria, if thats the case, then go here http://pet.justanswer.com/ it might help. if that dont help then google "online veterinary assistance" or something like that to get a free, professional answer from a doctor. good luck, i hope your hammie gets better.
