• I have a four and a half month pug and she was just spayed two weeks ago and got her rabies shot. I'm not sure of the site of the vaccine, but now she has a mass the size of a marble in her back thigh. Does this sound like a fatty tumor?

  • Usually vaccinations are given in the thickest part of the back of the neck. What you are probably feeling is her popliteal lymph node, not a fatty tumor. The cause of tumor growth isn't always known and your girl is pretty young for these to develop.
The lymph node is generally quite smaller and you usually cannot feel it. I would suggest contacting your vet. They may want to check her other lymph nodes as well. Probably nothing to worry about. Better to be safe though. Best of luck with your baby girl!
As I am thinking here and rereading your question. Where exactly is the "tumor" located? The lymph node is at the very back of the thigh, above the hock. There is nothing from a vaccination standpoint or the spay that would cause a lump like that. Is it on the inside of her thigh up closer to her belly? Is there any bruising? Sometimes with the administration of injectable anesthetics they will use the femoral vein in the back leg. This is also a possibility.
