  • The sparks are working. The ignition turns. Ive looked at the fuel pipe, fuel filter and i've pushe the fuel reset button by the petrol tank....but its still not starting..
    Any ideas?


  • immobiliser problem? soggy spark plugs? fuel cut off valve activated? not meaning to make you or me sound stupid but is the correct fuel in the tank? fuel pump could be failing, i think that most likely.


  • use a multimeter to check the battery?


  • hey friend! it takes 3 things to make a engine to work. fire, gas and compresson. if you have good fire and good gas then the only thing is left is the compresson. do a compresson test on the engine.


  • is there any history before the car wouldn't start or was everything fine then it didn't start

  • if you have spark, fuel and compression, and the fuel is not contaminated, then the timing must be off.


  • the ignition turns? where?looked at the fuel pipe?is it petrol? diesel?..you don,t say which car it is ?..oh dear.


  • Check the fuel pressure, ignition timing, cylinder compression


  • if you have sparks and the engine is turning over with compression then the only thing it can be is fuel so you need to check the pump is working, but depending on make of car its most likely to be in the tank.


  • Back to basics my friend.

    Firstly you need air/ fuel and a spark.

    Is fuel actually being delivered right upto the engine when cranking ?

    Have you actually removed the plug to see the spark or have you just checked at the leads ?

    It could be that if have good fuel delivery and a good spark to the plug that the engine is flooded with too much fuel. You could try removing the plugs and see if they are wet with fuel.

    If they are then dry them off and refit them. Then remove the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine until it fires.

    Then refit the fuse and it should run.
