• I plan on traveling the world for a while. I don't have a place to put all my stuff... I'm thinking of selling all my stuff... and getting rid of a lot of others things like pictures (I'm going to scan in all my pictures and get rid of the originals). I want to be as free as stuff as possible. Would you do the same?

  • Depends on how you're travelling.

If you have a car or a boat or something, you could keep a fair bit of your stuff and yet travel anyway.

That'd be one way i would do it without hesitating - travelling the world by boat.

Under my own direction, of course.

  • if i was planning on going back, i wouldn't (sell my stuff).

  • maybe keep some of your favorite stuff in storage somewhere or with your friends or parents to store until you get back.

  • For myself I wouldn't sell it all up - I've moved countries and left a small crate of precious possessions which got lost. I felt that I had retained the essence of all my previous life by getting rid of loads and only keeping a bit. I'm not at all a material person, but feel a real loss for those sentimental/precious things which can't be replaced. Those storage places aren't too expensive and you can keep some of the special things and then travel. When you come back (if you do) then you can re-evaluate whether they are still important to you, but at least you are keeping your options open. I hear what you say about your photos and that is a great idea. Oh just saw your PS. That is sad (didn't say how long ago so don't know how you feel right now) but all the more reason for not chucking everything out, you may need to come back to something later. Happy travelling and good luck :-)
